(Charlotte, North Carolina) [Senator Jesse HELMS - refers to Mayaguez incident by saying American doesn't intend to surrender her ntl honor.] President makes no mention of Mayaguez; sticks to patriotic themes. [PRES. - says United States must become a strong nation with people unified in national purpose.] President' appearance has political overtones; with much of Ronald Reagan's support in South, President' political advisers hope Mr. Ford to be making more bicentennial appearances in south states.
