REPORTER: Roger Mudd

(Raleigh, North Carolina) Jean Little has denied making any telephone calls from Beaufort Cnty. jail after 10:30 p.m., August 26 call to Anna Eubanks. She fled from cell in pre-dawn hrs. of August 27. Prosecution witness, telephone operator, Nancy Lee Hollis, says Joan Little placed collect call from jail on August 27 between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Defense attorney Jerry Paul gets Hollis to admit call could have come from anyone outside jail. Paul accuses Hollis of lying. [HOLLIS - says told Paul didn't intend to start lying now.] Defense begins final arguments.
