(Studio) Mississippi to begin selecting convention representatives Saturday in precinct caucuses.

(Mississippi) At 1964 Democrat conv., regular Mississippi Democrats were forced to share seats with Mississippi Freedom Democrats, coalition of black civil rights workers, white liberals and organized labor. Regulars walk out of convention and loyalists recognized by National Democratic party ever since. Regulars still dominate Mississippi pols. New Governor Cliff Finch brought regulars and loyalists together. 2 groups meet together to get ready for caucuses. [Democratic national cmtewoman. Pat DERIAN - says Finch provided catalyst and leadership to make unity possible. Hard to believe we've come to this Point.] Alabama Governor George Wallace carried Mississippi in 1968. Ex-Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter considered strong contender. Sargent Shriver counting on black and Catholic votes. Senator Lloyd Bentsen running heavy media campaign. Ex-Senator Fred Harris' campaign in financial trouble here. Caucus is 1st test on South soil between Wallace and others.
