(Studio) Vice President candidates have word battle over Senator Robert Dole's statements that World War II was Democrats' war.

(Albany, New York) Subject 1st broached in debate; Mondale responded briefly and subject dropped. Dole makes further statements Monday; today Mondale aides say, though Mondale has avoided personal attacks on Dole, Democrat V. P. candidate thinks this good opening. [MONDALE - says this is example of kind of divisive leadership Republicans would give. Says country needs leadership to bring together and put people back to work.] Mondale says he ties Republican ticket to Dole's statement because Ford hasn't repudiated it.
