(Studio) Lebanon celebrates 33rd anniversary of independence from France amid Arab League peace enforced by Syrian troops. Syrian troops occupy most of Lebanon except south area. Israel sends more tanks and troops to Lebanese, Israeli border anticipating Syrian move toward border.

(State Department) United States privately transmits strong Israeli warning to Syria not to send troops into south Lebanon and not to allow Palestinians to use that territory to launch attacks on Israel. Experts say Israel able to take action if Syria doesn't comply, but many feel it won't happen; reasons given.
