(Studio) Israeli national elections held today. Prime Min. Golda Meir faces stiff competition.

(Tel Aviv, Israel) Polls go to Israelis unable to cast vote at regular polls. Soldiers involved in current Mid. E. war to be formidable factor in elections. Cease-fire violations occur daily on both fronts. Full scale alert for troops in effect. Mrs. Meir votes early; opponent, Mr. Begin, seems confident. Defense minister Moshe Dayan and wife cast votes amid rumors favoring Begin. Record number of voters turn out.
