(Cairo, Egypt) Report on Sumed pipeline project from Gulf of Suez to Mediterranean Sea on coast west of Alexandria, Egypt. Originally seen as substitute for Suez Canal after 1967 Arab-Israel war closed canal; inconvenience of closing to tankers from Persian Gulf noted. Details re: pipeline and effect on canal usage noted. Pipeline is largest Egyptian project ever financed by Arab money; 4 oil cntrys. involved in project with Egypt are Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Pipeline opens in December
