(Studio) Israeli Prime Min. Yitzhak Rabin resigns today; will remain as head of caretaker government until spring elections.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(Jerusalem, Israel) Hrs. before resignation, Rabin tells foreign press Israel in political crisis, but says no one should try to take advantage of it. [RABIN - says government policies won't change.] Rabin had to resign and call for new elections because he lost major support in parliament when he dropped National Religious party from coalition. Govt. and political party chaos reflects discontent among Israel economy problems and Arab push for peace with Palestinian state on west bank and Gaza Strip noted.
