(Studio) Schlesinger's energy chief appointment draws approval and opposition. Some groups, like National Wildlife Federation and Energy Action, favor choice; others oppose it.

Telegram to Carter noting opposition to appointed cited. Ralph Nader group also opposes nomination. [Nader group spokesperson Rich POLLOCK - notes Carter's campaign promise with regard to low priority for nuclear energy. Cites adverse reaction to appointed of former AEC head to energy post.] Natural Re- sources Defense Council reaction is more moderate. [Spokesperson Dr. Tom COCHRAN - says appts. to mid-level jobs are important factor in operation.] Schlesinger present appointed doesn't require Senator approval, but new Energy Department and head of it do.
