(Studio) Teamster Union and trucking industry negotiating contract to avoid strike.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(Arlington, Hgts., Illinois) If strike occurs, not all trucks would disappear from roads. Exceptions noted. Strike unlikely. Contract is 1st big contract to expire since economy began recovery. Other unions watch negotiations closely. Auto inds. would have to shut down assembly lines if strike occurs. Teamsters want cost of living clause with no ceiling. Many truckers not anxious for strike now.
