(Studio) Report on dispute between United States Steel and Pittsburgh.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite

(Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) USS running advertisements saying that the company may be forced to leave city. [Environmentalist Joan HAYS - says USS chairperson trying to blackmail community.] [USS chairperson Edgar SPEER - notes environmentalists' beliefs about USS.] Main issue is air pollution at USS' coke plant in Clairton, Pennsylvania. Facility has never met all environmental standards. USS has fought full cleanup for years in court [SPEER - says impossible to meet environmental rules with regard to coke plants.] EPA says USS has compliance problems at 17 of major 20 steelmaking facilities. [HAYS - says USS flaunts environmental regulations.] [Allegheny Cnty. official, Tom FOERSTER - says people cannot tolerate attitude of what's good for USS is good for rest of US.] USS to meet with government agencies in Washington, DC to try and reach agreement.
