(Studio) Rptd. ex-pres. Richard Nixon planned his 1st public speech the day before California primary.

(DC) Ford administration delighted Nixon cancels planned speech. Nixon was invited to speak to USC board of trustees June 7, before June 8 primary. USC trustee Gavin Herbert issued invitation. Ford's strategists always felt Nixon's trip to People's Republic of China, before New Hampshire primary cut down size of Ford vote. White House aides say they had nothing to do with Nixon's change of plans.
