(Studio) President Ford vetoes $4 billion foreign military aid bill.
REPORTER: Roger Mudd
(DC) Bill put ceiling on foreign sales of American arms of $9 billion per year Bill required Saudi Arabia to stop discriminating against American Jews who wanted entry visas. Human rights standards set up for South Korea and Chile, who receive United States arms aid. All United States arms grants terminated by end of 1978. Bill opened way for start of trade negotiations with Vietnam in 6 mos. without requiring MIA (missing in action) information [FORD - says bill would obstruct president power to enact foreign policy.] Ford can maneuver for compromise that would give Israel less money. President avoids charges by Reagan that he's agreeing to limit arms sales to American allies and has deserted American MIAs in Vietnam.
