(Studio) Democratic Convention nominates Jimmy Carter for president last night. Convention to okay Carter's Vice President choice, Minnesota Senator Walter Mondale, tonight.

(NYC) [CARTER - announces his Vice President choice of Mondale. Certain that Mondale will campaign hard and stick with difficult assignment despite his withdrawal from presidential race 18 mos. ago. Notes Mondale's problem with hypertension.] Mondale and wife Joan arrive at news conference [MONDALE - notes the honor of being chosen Carter's Vice President] Carter meets with California delegation and California Governor Edmund G. Brown Junior [BROWN - speaks for unity.] [CARTER - thanks legislature leaders and California people for keeping Brown at home for so long.] Carter concerned about overconfidence.

(NYC) Mondale secludes self to write acceptance speech. Joan Mondale and Rosalynn Carter hold press conference [Mrs. MONDALE - impressed that Carter invited Rosalynn and her into the room while he was questioning Mondale about Vice President post.] Mondale children are: Ted, 18; Eleanor, 16, and William, 14. Mondale's speech to stress party unity.

(Studio) House majority leader Thomas "Tip" O'Neill thought Senator Edmund Muskie would have been better Vice President choice. Oklahoma Governor David Boren says he disagreed with Mondale with regard to child day care ctrs. Most Democrats praised Mondale choice. UAW President Leonard Woodcock praises Mondale. Carter to recommend to Democrat ntl. committee that the convention adjourn for 30 days after presidential candidate nominated so the candidate may pick Vice President choice to be confirmed by designated committee
