(Studio) Senator opens hearings on nomination L. Pat. Gray as FBI chief. Watergate bugging major topic.
REPORTER: Howard K. Smith

(Capitol Hill) Gray promises to keep FBI non-pol. Senator Eastland brings up Watergate bugging. Gray offers to let Senators see FBI files on it. Insists FBI moved aggressively to track down all leads in bugging case, but Senators skeptical. Senator Hart questions Gray about suspected leak by White House of FBI reports in case. [GRAY - says nomination in hands of Congress] [Senator Robert BYRD - says feels Gray too political active for too long.]
