(Studio) Sunday, State Department called North Korean expression of regret with regard to DMZ incident unacceptable; today says is positive step.

(Vail, Colorado) President Press Secretary Ron Nessen says Ford ready to relax tensions in Korea, but no amount of regret from North Korea changes fact 2 American officers beaten to death without provocation. United States has called meeting of military armistice commission in Panmunjom Tuesday to insist on assurances of safety for Americans in DMZ. Nessen says must be no miscalculation with regard to US firmness. Pentagon says show of force still in effect. President showing North Korea United States wants to avoid conflict, but won't back down from commitments in Korea.
