(Studio) House subcommittee opens hearings on cause of Teton Dam collapse in Idaho in June. Experts told subcommittee same thing could happen elsewhere.

(DC) Reporter recounts Teton Dam disaster. (Department of Interior film shown.) Before Congress today, scientists blamed political pressures, hasty site selection and inadequate preconstruction study for disaster though they couldn't name immediate physical cause. [California Representative Leo RYAN - asks if other dams already built in areas with this kind of instability.] [U. of MT geology professor Robert CURRY - says yes.] Project director for Teton Dam and man who designed it still to testify.
