(Studio) John Downey, prisoner in China for 20 years as spy, talks with reporters
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner
(New Britain, Connecticut) Downey greeted by former classmate and now Connecticut Governor Thomas J. Meskill. Downey colleagues in CIA also meet plane. [DOWNEY - says told Chinese what secret information he had during interrogations.] Because of improving Chinese-American relations, Nixon asked that Downey be released early as mother critically ill; request was granted.
