(Studio) Supreme Court hears arguments in important civil rights case.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite
(DC) Background of case, Bakke versus University of California Med. School, noted. Arguments of Solicitor General Wade McCree and of university attorney and former Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox noted. [COX - says affirmation of California court decision could cut back and perhaps destroy affirmative action programs.] [Bakke attorney Reynold COLVIN - cites client's side of case.] Court action could be delayed as late as next June.
