(Studio) Trans. Department reports Amtrak, in general, improving service.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner
(DC) Amtrak not doing very well. Amtrak may drop Chicago-Miami, NYC-Kansas City and DC-Parkersburg routes. [President Amtrak Roger LEWIS - says railroad not up to date but can't be modernized overnight.] [Senator William SAXBE - tells reporter Bill Matney Amtrak total failure and program should be abandoned.] At present only Harley Staggers Special to Parkersburg and 2 other routes headed for moth balls.
