(Studio) Beginning of Cairo conference and prime Min. Begin's arrival in New York City for later talks with President Carter noted.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite

(NYC) [BEGIN - has embarked on trip to Washington, DC because timing is now good for peace in Mideast.] prime Min.'s refusal to reveal subject of discussions with Carter and indications he's ready to discuss Israel's boundaries, Palestinians and west bank noted. Reporter's question to Begin during plane trip to United States stated. [BEGIN - believes Carter must be informed of progress made in events of last few weeks and notes there are still problems in peacemaking process he'd like to talk over with President, include that re: Palestinians and Israeli proposed solution to it. Says reporter can assume there have been dvts. behind scenes of such importance that Carter should know of them.] prime Min.'s indications of intent to meet Sadat again noted; talks with Jewish leaders in New York City will precede talks with Carter on Friday

(Cairo, Egypt) Details of Sadat interview given, include remarks about possible meeting of leaders of Egypt, Israel and US. [SADAT - doesn't think Begin's trip will hurt conf., but give it new drive. Talks of future confs. in which representation is elevated to foreign mins.; says political decisions will then be made. Says time element is flexible. Announces invitation from Carter to go to Washington, DC when he finds it convenient, but says he has no plans for it though it can't be excluded. Is open to meeting with both Begin and Carter at same time, but will depend on future events.] Sadat says he knows of no plans for Carter to come to Cairo during foreign trip scheduled for end of month
