(Studio) Indira Gandhi resigns as India's prime minister as result of election defeat of self and Congress party, which has ruled India since independence from Britain.

(New Delhi, India) Gandhi resignation noted; was defeated in own district by Raj Narain, who was political prisoner in emergency. Narain comes to New Delhi for meeting with Morarji Desai, who's speculated to be next prime minister. [DESAI - says people must become free from fear now.] Another opposition leader to be reckoned with is Jagjivan Ram, who split with Gandhi in February.
