(Studio) ERA and abortion controversies have marked many women's mtgs. Abortion issue is again prominent in Congress as House and Senator try to reconcile versions of bill with regard to federal funds for abortion.

(DC) Differences in House and Senator versions noted. President Carter has said he supports funds only in cases of rape, incest or life-threatening situations. Senator conference leader Ed Brooke says he fears President's views will carry weight in conference and hopes not much. [BROOKE - hopes Senator will stand firm on position.] Congress under pressure to resolve question, since both Hyde amendment in House, and Senator version of bill are part of HEW appropriations.
