(Studio) Federal energy policies has Kermit, Texas, in uproar.
REPORTER: Morton Dean

(Kermit, Texas) Though Kermit is located in midst of natural gas fields, federal government rations its gas, and threatens economy penalty if town exceeds its allocation. Allocation based on 1974 usage, which was low due to mild winter. [Retired oil field worker Julius "Buck" WOODS - won't be able to afford natural gas.] Kermit orders moratorium on new natural gas hookups. [Mayor Gerald McGUIRE - explains city's viewpoint.] El Paso Natural Gas Company, the supplier involved, understands Kermit's position, but can do nothing. Community Public Service Company, the distributor, along with El Paso Natural Gas, petitions Federal Power Commission to change ruling. [Community Public Service Company Maxie DAVIE - says all Kermit customers are Priority 1.] Other communities in area face same problems as Kermit.
