(Studio) President Carter and Canada's Prime Min. Pierre Trudeau announce agreement to build trans-Canada natural gas pipeline to bring gas from Alaska to lower 48 states.
REPORTER: Roger Mudd

(DC) Planned path of pipeline, along Alaska oil pipeline before going into Yukon Territory and eventually splitting to carry natural gas to California and 11, noted. Reasons for choice of this plan cited. [TRUDEAU - notes United States and Canada worked together on big project in Saint Lawrence Seaway and that this is bigger and, in terms of energy, more important.] [CARTER - says there has never been bigger project in history and that cooperation between 2 cntries. in plan is major step forward.] Congress is expected to approve plan in fall.
