(Studio) Reaction last year to President Carter's decision to scuttle B-1 bomber and use cruise missile instead recalled. Pentagon's answer to critics and revelation that cruise has capability as short-range battlefield weapon reported.

(White Sands Missile Range, NM) Defense Department film shown; is noted to have been released today by Pentagon to show cruise test in May where missile flew from California-NV border to Dugway Proving Grounds in UT. Details of test given. Defense Secretary Brown's invitation to several reporters to view cruise survivability test reported; details of this test, answering critics who say missile might not be able to get inside USSR , given. Brown's contention that President Carter made right decision in selecting cruise over B-1 cited. [BROWN - says cruise is very effective and choice of it has been vindicated.] Further tests scheduled are mentioned.
