(Studio) Report on ERA supporters pushing for ratification deadline extension in wake of Illinois failure to ratify amendment for 3rd time.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite

(No location given) [Rosalynn CARTER - expresses desire for ERA to pass; favors extension if necessary.] Is noted 3 states must approve ERA by Mar.; extension passes House of Representatives subcommittee by one vote. [Representative Don EDWARDS - expresses optimism with regard to passage of extension by Congress; notes Senator Birch Bayh's optimism for Sen approval.] [Stop ERA chairperson Phyllis SCHLAFLY - believes most people view extension as unfair.] [NOW President Eleanor SMEAL - says movement for constitutional equality will continue with or without extension.] Smeal comments with regard to ERA movement plans detailed.
