(Coles Cnty., Illinois) Details given about Blackie, apparently lost or dropped off at highway intersection near Oakland, Illinois, in summer of 1965 and how he affected people of area. [Bill STIFF - recalls details about Blackie; theorizes that dog was dropped or left and stayed at roadside waiting for master to return. Notes that people brought Blackie turkey bones after Thanksgiving because dog wouldn't leave roadside area. Thinks dog would never have left area except for being killed by motorist.] [Oakland newspaper editor Helen PARKUS - describes dog's watchfulness, apparently trying to identify motorists.] Blackie's burial at roadside and residents' care of gravesite reported Teenagers' sharing of mowing around grave mentioned; Jenny Whitmore noted as one of these.
