(Studio) Some of heaviest fighting was done on Highway 1 in Vietnam war.

(Highway 1 near Nhatrang, South Vietnam) French originally built Highway 1 but Americans improved road from DMZ (demilitarized zone) to Saigon. Highway 1 leads to villages variously affected by war. In Danang, South Vietnam, there is almost a feeling of celebration, but government is worried. Provincial capital of Quang Tri pressured by both Viet Cong and South Vietnam government, but the Viet Cong strongest in Quang Tri and Binh Dinh. Farmers continue working; life goes on; but shadow of war still hangs over Vietnam.
