(Studio) President Carter reported meeting today with representatives of 16 major women's organization, with exception of one major group.
REPORTER: Walter Cronkite

(DC) NOW demonstration in front of White House said dramatizing their board's decision to oppose Carter's reelec. on grounds that he hasn't taken women's issues seriously; Press Secretary Jody Powell quoted. Carter noted excluding NOW from today's meeting [CARTER - says ERA is most important issue at this time; explains.] Lack of ratification by any additional states since Carter assumed presidency noted. [NOW president Eleanor SMEAL - comments on today's meeting] Smeal quoted; possible endorsement of Kennedy by NOW considered.
