(Studio) FBI head nominee L. Patrick Gray rejected after Watergate scandal. Senator Judiciary Committee hears new nominee, Kansas City Police Chief Clarence Kelley.
REPORTER: Howard K. Smith

(Capitol Hill) Kelley introduced by Attorney General Elliot Richardson. Senators want assurance Kelley won't react as did acting director Gray with regard to aide John Dean and others. Senator Phillip Hart asks about reaction to political pressure. Kelley states never bows to anyone. Senator Edward Kennedy asks what Kelley would do if aide asked for FBI files or Kelley asked to take hot material from White House aides. Kelley says would refuse. To take orders from Attorney General and President only.
