(Studio) Report with regard to new Environmental Protection Agency pollution restrictions on coal burning power plants introduced
REPORTER: Bob Schieffer

(DC) [Natural Resources Defense Council spokesperson Richard AYRES - says Senator Robert Byrd has pressured Environmental Protection Agency and fellow Senators for less stringent pollution restrictions on coal power plants.] [Environmental Defense Fund spokesperson Robert RAUCH - speaks of closed door discussions between Byrd, and others.] Byrd's denial that he used his majority leader position to pressure EPA noted. Carter admin role noted. [EPA spokesperson David HAWKINS - says new standards undecided, but will be much stricter than current ones.] Possible legal action by environmentalists outlined.
