(Studio) House subcommittee holds hearings with regard to closing 5 major AFBs in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. New Englanders not pleased.
REPORTER: Howard K. Smith

(Capitol Hill) [Senator John PASTORE - calls for Navy's compassion for Rhode Island and continuance of military bases.] [Navy spokesperson John WARNER - states his responsibility to cut bases when Navy orders. Must spend money efficiently.] [PASTORE - shouts that country's security hurt if AFB closes.] [WARNER - says Admiral Zumwalt must keep same security with less bases.] [Admiral Elmo ZUMWALT - says can't do more with less facilities.] Senator Edward Kennedy complains about damage to Massachusetts.
