(DC) New appts. named: James Edwards, Secretary Energy; Samuel Pierce, Secretary HUD; James Watt, Secretary Interior; Jeane Kirkpatrick, United Nations ambassador [EDWARDS and WATT - speak at press conf.) Strom Thurmond's role in selection of Edwards considered. Presence of Secretary of State-designate Alexander Haig and Secretary Labor- designate Ray. Donovan at conference reported Haig quoted with regard to years in Richard Nixon administration and retaining of Washington, DC lawyer Joseph Califano, a former Carter cabinet officer. [HAIG - talks about his Nixon years) Earlier relationship of Haig and Califano at Pentagon recalled.
