(Studio) Some couples reported using income taxes as grounds for divorce.

(DC) Additional taxes estimated paid by working married couples in 1969, thus a marriage penalty, noted. [Senator Charles MATHIAS - says divorce is encouraged by tax code.] Mathias reported sponsoring legislature giving married couples option of filing as singles; case of David and Angela Boyter cited as example [David BOYTER - comments on amount saved by divorcing.] Other proposals outlined; opposition by administration to any action noted. [Treasury Department spokesperson Emil M. SUNLEY - comments.] Govt. said hoping 1981 tax cut will mollify 2-income families.
