(Studio) Vice President Spiro Agnew undergoes investigation for bribery, extortion and fraud dating back to days as Maryland governor
REPORTER: Howard K. Smith
(DC) Agnew refuses to comment although formally denies charges in statement issued yesterday. Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Baltimore federal prosecutor George Beall decide not to turn case over to special Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox. Beall to take case to Baltimore grand jury. As Maryland governor, Agnew allegedly made financial gains from kickbacks or campaign contributions from building contractors after building contracts awarded to them by Agnew.
