(Tokyo, Japan) Failure of Japanese government to promote United States prods. in effort to improve trade relations noted illustrated by unsuccessful government-sponsored American trade fair. [Fair EMPLOYEE - was bored by lack of attendance.] Poor quality of United States prods. and lack of support from United States firms thought underlying problem. [City University of New York spokesperson Yoshi TSURUMI - feels United States attitude is unfortunate.] Inability of Tokyo department stores to promote American-made prods. due to inferior quality examined. Reactions of consumers Mrs. Okomoto and Mrs. Watanabe cited as example [OKOMOTO or WATANABE - explains consumers' avoidance of American products.] Harvard business school's findings on quality of United States versus Japanese air conditioners noted.
