(Studio) Possible threat to joint US-Australia-New Zealand mutual defense treaty, Anzus, by New Zealand's ban on port calls by nuclear-powered or nuclear-weapons-bearing ships reported.

(DC) New Zealand's refusal to allow United States nuclear-powered ship in port recalled. [State Department spokesperson Bernard KALB - considers incident serious.] US thought fearing anti-nuclear movement that influenced New Zealand's Prime Min. David Lange will have similar effect on Japan, Australia and West Europe; Australian Prime Min. Robert Hawke mentioned here today for talks on future of Anzus alliance. Possibility of economy sanctions and exclusion of New Zealand from Anzus considered.
