(Moscow, USSR : John Sheahan) USSR general secretary Mikhail Gorbachev reported planning trip to Lithuania, USSR , in effort to preserve Communist party unity; details given of emergency meeting of Central Committee, scenes shown. [Carnegie Endowment for International Peace spokesperson Dimitri SIMES - says Gorbachev must keep republics intact.] [Central Committee spokesperson Vadim MEDVEDEV - (thru translator) comments on Lithuanian rebellion against Communist authority.] Lithuanian party chief Algirdas Brazauskas quoted with regard to possible compromise. Gorbachev reported fearing that remaining republics will declare themselves indep. countries.
