"Defense News" and "Army Times" reported calling for Tower to withdraw from confirmation process. President George Bush noted supporting Tower despite allegations of personal impropriety. [Senator William COHEN - praises Tower.] Allegations that FBI is investigating outlined on screen. [Senator Trent LOTT - says Tower should not be confirmed if he is an alcoholic.] Impact of controversy upon Tower's leadership of Defense Department discussed. [Ex-White House communications director David GERGEN - says Tower's credibility is weakened now.] White House officials quoted with regard to investigation.
