(Studio) Report on threat to Ronald Reagan's life.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner

(Miami, Florida) Crowd greets Reagan on lawn of hotel. Youth approaches Reagan, after speech, with toy pistol. Michael Lance Carvin, 20, of Pompano Beach, Florida, identified. Secret Service thinks Carvin may also have threatened President Ford and Vice President Nelson Rockefeller if Lynette Fromme not freed. Reagan held news conference [REAGAN - describes incident and his reactions.] Carvin charged with assault. Secret Service to ask for $500,000 bond. Reagans leave for New Hampshire.

(DC) [REAGAN - announces candidacy.] Reagan insists on 11th commandment: speak no ill of another Republican [REAGAN - says difficult to find leaders free of forces that began our problems: Congress, big business, lobbyists, bureaucracy and big labor. This must change if American is to go forward.] Reagan against gun control, forced busing and ERA. For strong defense Hasn't enough time to formulate plan to aid NYC. [REAGAN - rules out hypothesis of losing early primaries.] His strategy is to embarrass Ford in early primaries.
