(Studio) Higher fuel costs cause utility companies to raise prices to consumers, causing much protest.
REPORTER: Howard K. Smith

(Jackson, Michigan) Customer pays 45% more for utilities than 12-18 mos. ago. Consumer Power Company says even higher rates needed; reasons given. [Michigan attorney general Frank KELLEY - says after utility company went to court, it could only prove company needed less than 1/2 amount it claimed was needed.] Kelley admits some increase needed, but sees no dire consequences if total increase not received [Utility company board chairperson A. H. AYMOND - says it's serious matter to delay construction on generating plants because funds not available. Econ. of state to be hurt.]
