(Studio) Joint Atomic Energy Committee opens hearings with regard to safety of nuclear power plants.

(DC) 1961 explosion in nuclear energy plant at Arco, ID, caused deaths. Film shown. Last fall, fire at Browns Ferry, Alabama, reactor plant nearly caused nuclear melt-down. Resigned General Electric engineers testify at hearing. [Former G.E. official Dale BRIDENBAUGH - does not believe Nuclear Regulatory Commission properly explains their concerns to public.] Defects cited. Bill Anders of NRC testifies; claims misunderstanding of regulatory process. Joint Atomic Energy Committee sees its role as watchdog.
