(Studio) United Rubber Workers Union and Firestone Tire and Rubber Company bargain about new contract. Contract expires at midnight. Negotiations occur in other cities against other rubber mfrs., Goodyear, Uniroyal and Goodrich. Key issue is money.

(DC) Strike against tire mfrs. would hurt auto industry, which is doing well now. Rubber workers demand cost of living adjustment. Higher wages add to labor costs which means higher prices. It's endless spiral.
