(Studio) House Ethics Committee investigates charges by Common Cause that Representative Robert Sikes placed personal interests ahead of public duty.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner

(DC) Sikes in Congress 35 years Common Cause says Sikes enriched self by supporting bill that boosted value of his land and pressed for bank charter in which he later acquired an interest and by voting to fund Pentagon contract with company in which he held stock [SIKES - says charges are baseless.] Chairperson John Flynt Junior imposed gag rule and Common Cause walks out. [FLYNT - says no evidence taken in executive session may be released in public without committee 's consent.]
