(Studio) Results of yesterday's primaries given. Frank Church wins in MT; Jimmy Carter wins South Dakota; Jerry Brown gets Rhode Island. Church and Morris Udall's attempts to stop Carter have become divisive issue.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner

(Columbus, Ohio) [CHURCH - says he's most successful Democratic candidate in race except for Carter. Believes Udall's loss in South Dakota should tell him that party won't turn to alternate candidate who hasn't demonstrated he can win.] Church insists he's not asking Udall to quit.
REPORTER: Roger Peterson

(Columbus, Ohio) Udall in no mood to take Church's advice. [UDALL - says he's going to convention with second highest number of delegates.] Reviews primaries and his standing. Church's advice not worth much. ] Udall has one last chance to win primary in Ohio; won't give in to Church.

(Studio) Jerry Brown calls Rhode Island victory extraordinary since he wasn't on ballot. Brown and Carter both looking toward Super Tuesday - primaries' finale.

(Livingston, New Jersey) Brown campaigns in New Jersey; to return to California over wkend. Brown's chances more difficult to determine in New Jersey. Some uncommitted delegates belong to Hubert Humphrey. [BROWN - says Humphrey offered to step aside for Brown's candidacy.] [VOICE - asks how Humphrey can step aside if he's not candidate.] [BROWN - says that's good ques.]

(San Francisco, California) Voters anxious to know what went wrong in Rhode Island with Jimmy Carter. [CARTER - suggests Brown's comment that Carter's losing ground is illogical. Carter has 1000 delegates to Brown's 25.]
