(Studio) McCarthy steps up campaign.
REPORTER: Chet Huntley
(NYC) 20,000 at Madison Square Garden for his last fund-raiser. Speech carried by closed circuit-TV to 22 other cities. $2 million pledged or given. Democratic National Chairperson John Bailey asked McCarthy by telegram about his position on floor demonstrations. [MCCARTHY - says that's 1st thing Bailey asked him about. Says his campaign has been different and he expects demonstration to be different. Saying they would be happy with no demonstrations is defeatist attitude.] Humphrey and McGovern oppose traditional demonstrations. Reporter cites examples of demonstrations McCarthy could have.
