(Studio) At World Synod of Bps., Pope Paul appts. Commission to study controversial issues and report after synod ends.

(Vatican City, Italy) Synod tries to stifle dissent. Pope says he alone has authority to rule Catholic Church, but he'll give Bps. larger voice in government, if they won't buck his authority. 200 dissident priests, dressed in regular clothes, meet in Protestant Church. Some of synod agree with radicals. Most will reaffirm papal authority.
