(Studio) Senate committee investigating American hunger has budget cut 40%. Chairperson George McGovern says bad day for hungry people.

(DC) McGovern says he'll fight cut on Senate floor. Senator Strom Thurmond wanted 90% cut. [McGOVERN - declares he won't accept Rules Committee cut; appeal for full amount Wonders how Senator can vote themselves pay raise and turn down this request.] Some say local pols. tolerate malnutrition so hunger will drive people out of their area. Thurmond says it's Democrat plot to win Negro votes.
