(Studio) Irish strike has closed most banks since spring; money short; checks piling up.
REPORTER: Frank McGee
(Dublin, Ireland) For. banks doing huge business; national banks struck Apr. 30; many strikers have other jobs. [Pub MGR. - says has vast sum in uncashable checks.] Cashing checks increases business, decrs. present income. [MAN - says company prints checks for struck banks, makes good money selling checkbooks.] Approx. $5 billion outstanding in uncashable checks.
